The History Of Park City
Park City: Prospectors, in 1868, discovered silver in the area today known as Park City. By 1872, a rich abundance of silver was discovered in Ontario Canyon. Once the word spread, many made their way to the area and the boom was on. Mining shacks were built, the newspaper was launched, schools and churches were established and businesses opened shop. By 1884, Park City was incorporated. Today, silver mining is not what it once was. Instead of going down into the mountain, the big attraction is going downhill on the mountain. Park City is home to world-class ski resorts and boasts of having the world’s largest ski resort known as Park City Mountain Resort. The town remains a healthy blend of old and new. Main street exemplifies the mining days gone by. The Old Town area is known for restored homes while surrounding areas display more modern mountain homes.
